Hi everyone,

We've been BUSY! After our radio tour in the UK, we flew to LA for a string of shows and also performed at the American Music Awards. LA is like a totally different world, but lots of fun.

SINGLE SUCCESS

We've been so chuffed with the success of I Found You - it's a nice feeling to have people going crazy over one of our songs again. We're proud of the video as well, especially as it shows us in such a different light. It's hilarious comparing it to the All Time Low video, where we look so much younger and don't have a clue what we're doing.

FESTIVE FUN

One of the downsides to this job is that we don't get holidays, but hopefully this Christmas we'll get to spend some time with our friends and families, and catch up on lots of sleep! This year I might even treat the boys to presents!

It's really not! I like girls my own age as well. But I don't base things on age - it completely depends on the person. I'd never be like, "She's not old enough for me". I don't think you should make too many hoops for people to have to go through. If you get on with someone and you like them, then great.

ARE YOU FRIENDS WITH YOUR EX, CAROLINE FLACK?

We're fine. We have the same friends so I saw her not long ago at a friend's birthday. There seems to be an idea that every time we meet, we argue, but we don't.

I think when people bring signs. You can tell they've put a lot of work into the banners, like, some of them have lights in them and stuff, so they catch your eye.

Yeah, sometimes. When we started on The X Factor, I used to feel very sick before performances. Once I get on stage I'm fine!

WHO GETS THE WORST PRE-CONCERT JITTERS?

I would say Niall, probably. He seems to get very nervous before we go on stage - but I do sometimes as well though.

AND WHO IS THE VAINEST BEFORE GOING ON STAGE?

Louis! Before we go on stage, he looks into every reflective surface, fixing his hair. I have never seen anyone use so much hairspray!

SPEAKING OF HAIR, IS IT TRUE YOU'RE THINKING OF SHAVING OFF YOUR TRADEMARK CURLS?

I want to shave my hair off and no one will really let me! If I raised enough money, I would do it for charity.

DO YOU SOMETIMES JUST WANT TO GO OUT AND SPLASH SOME OF YOUR CASH?

I have a Range Rover Sport and some other cars, but I'm not being stupid. My dad, Joe, is a financial advisor and he said that for every 10 pounds you make, spend 6 pounds or 7 pounds wisely and have fun with the rest. So yeah, I've had fun. I don't want to look back on this and think I could have had more fun.

I took my dogs out for a run the other day, and I was on my bike and had my dog, Lynch, on the lead. Then my brother told me to take my other dog, Kartel, as well, who is much bigger, but the minute I took Kartel's lead, my whole bike collapsed! SAUSAGE SITUATION

We were making sausages at school with a sausage machine, but every time they wound the handle, it made me feel really queasy. The lady asked for a volunteer to turn it and I prayed she wouldn't pick me, but she did. As I turned the handle and watched the meat turn into a sausage, it made me feel so queasy I threw up all over the sausages! I really felt sorry for everyone who saw it.

I don't think there's any real competition between us - they sing dance music. They're real lads lads, whereas we're just mischievous, which I think is different.

THERE WERE RUMOURS THAT THE WANTED BAD-MOUTHED ONE DIRECTION...

The only thing that's bad for me is they were actually really nice to our faces, but when it came to talking to the media, they were really trashy about us. We'd never done anything wrong, we were just doing our thing. We'd never purposely talk trash about anyone and we still haven't said anything about them now.

Who's the biggest troublemaker in 1D?

Louis. I'm kind of like his sounding board now. If he's gonna do anything random, he'll ask me if he should do it. Then I'm like, "Yeah, go on!" So I'll tell him to do things - it's really me being a troublemaker!

DEVIOUS! THE OLYMPICS CLOSING CEREMONY WAS AMAZING! DID YOU MEET THE SPICE GIRLS?

Yeah, and Victoria Beckham was the only one of them I didn't kiss. I kissed Geri on the cheek and we've met Baby before, so I kissed her, and Mel B and Sporty.

But when I got to Victoria, I was just like, "I don't think I should try and kiss her because she's, like, Victoria Beckham!"

Definitely. I've never understood people saying they literally can't go out. You might have to stop and do a few photos, but then you carry on with what you're doing. The only time it gets crazy is when people know where we're going to be.

It's weird that people cry when they see us. It's funny that you cry when you're happy - I'd love to know the science behind it.

Well, it's all she's known cos I got together with her while I was in the band. If we go out, she's cool. She often takes the photos of me and the fans, bless her.

SOME FANS WOULD RATHER YOU WERE SINGLE!

I would never let that stop me from being in a relationship. Although we want to give everything to the fans, we still need to be able to live our lives. To be honest, the fans are really supportive. Often they come up and ask how Eleanor is.

YOU WERE IN ANOTHER LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP BEFORE ELEANOR. DO YOU HATE BEING SINGLE?

I'm not the type of guy to play around, you know? But I don't feel like I have to have someone. I'm with Eleanor because I want to be, not because I just want to have someone there.

ARE YOU THANKFUL THAT HARRY'S ANTICS TAKE THE HEAT OFF THE REST OF YOU?

I don't know about thankful. I feel sorry for him sometimes. I mean, it can be quite intense, but he knows when he's going out to these places that sometimes these things happen. And yeah, it's easier for the rest of us.

HE'S VERY FLIRTY ISN'T HE? MAYBE HE'S ASKING FOR TROUBLE!

I know, he's a very, very cheeky man!

CAN YOU TELL IF ONE OF THE OTHER LADS FANCIES A GIRL, EVEN IF HE WON'T ADMIT IT?

Yeah, I think so. The thing is, we spend a lot of time travelling in the car together, so we're always talking about what we've done in the last few days. And I think you can always tell if someone is talking about the same person a lot.

YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY SO CLOSE. HOW DO YOU REACT TO PEOPLE SAYING YOUR FRIENDSHIP IS MANUFACTURED?

It's such a frustrating thing, because I just don't understand how you can see the way that we are together, on camera and off camera, and look at it as if it's being contrived. Because it's so evident that we do get on well, and I just don't think we're good enough actors to pull off that kind of friendship!

I want to fill my entire right arm up to my elbow. I've loads of ideas. I draw as well. I'm more addicted to coming up with the ideas of what to get than the actual tattoo.

I think my reserved personality can sometimes be taken the wrong way and that's why people see me as a bad boy. I'm actually just a bit shy and awkward.

We had an understanding at the start. I told her, "Stories will come out, do you still want to be with me?" We have a lot of trust and understanding. She's like me - she's very relaxed. She's cool, man.

I know, I was just texting her as a mate and she was asking me for advice because Little Mix were doing the same thing we were a year ago, so it started like that. We're both northern, too, and I think that helps. It's going really well. We're very happy together.

He's cool, he's cute and... he's single! Here's the lowdown on Friday Download star AIDAN DAVIS

Aidan, you do some amazing moves on Friday Download, but have you ever injured yourself dancing?

I've never injured myself doing the most dangerous things ever, but I'm so clumsy when it comes to stupid stuff. I'll find a way to hurt my ankle walking down the road!

So have you needed to insure your legs for 1 million pound?

No, I don't think so!

When did you first realise you had a talent for dancing?

It was only about six months before my Britain's Got Talent audition. Then after the final, I kept dancing and now I'm dancing and rapping on Friday Download.

What inspired you to dance?

I was watching the film Step Up 2 and decided to copy it because I loved the dancers. Then I looked on the internet and looked at some dance moves and started doing it in my bedroom.

That's brilliant! And how did working on Friday Download come about? The producer came to see me while I was on tour with Diversity. I didn't know it was actually going to happen, so I took it with a pinch of salt, and then it did happen - and now I'm loving it!

Is it hard juggling your schoolwork and presenting the show?

It's actually quite easy! The only time I've missed school was when I was touring, but even then there were tutors, so it was good. I would never neglect my schoolwork because if one day all this stops, I would still have my grades to fall back on.

It's not going to stop any time soon! What do you plan to do next?

Next I'd love to do rapping because I've been doing it for quite a while now and I think it's actually sounding good! Well, my mum likes it, ha-ha!

Do people get starstruck when they meet you?

Yeah, they do! I remember when I turned the Christmas lights on in Liverpool, there was a girl behind the barrier who was just shaking. Then she disappeared into the crowd and my dad had to pick her up! It was surreal.

Is there a particular kind of girl who always grabs your attention?

I like girls who are funny and can dance. My mum would have to give her seal of approval, too. If my mum didn't like my girlfriend, I think it would be the most awkward thing ever! But I don't have a girlfriend at the moment.

And what would really turn you off?

It would have to be if she said something really unnecessary, like, "Oh, wow, that's a bit awkward!" I mean, why do you need to point it out?!

Do you think it's all right for girls to approach guys, or should it be the other way round?

I don't know, I think it would scare me a bit. I don't think I would feel confident if a girl approached me.

Finally, have you ever had a crush on any of the female presenters on Download?

No, we're like a family. I think it would be a bit weird, ha-ha!

SECRET ROMANCE

There's this boy I like and I've been out with him, but my mum and dad don't know. I'm scared that if they find out about him, they might be angry. What should I do?

Aled says: If you've already been on a date with this guy, then you must have had to lie to your parents and pretend you were somewhere else. This is just going to cause you more anxiety and make matters worse. Talk to your mum alone and just tell her there's a boy in school you've got a crush on and see how things go from there. She might not be as angry as you think. After all, she was young once, too, you know?

SAD SYNDROME

Dear Aled,

Lately I've been upset or wanting to cry all the time. Everything's fine at home and school, I have great friends and things are OK - it's just that once I'm alone, I'm upset. I don't get it!

Aled says: We all have times when we feel like shutting ourselves in our rooms for a good cry. Winter can be especially gloomy with dark mornings and evenings putting us in a slump, and don't underestimate the power of hormones! Tell your mum how you're feeling and make your time alone less lonely. Play uplifting music or text a friend to keep your mind on happy thoughts. If you find you just can't shake the sadness, you should speak to a doctor, to check you're not suffering from depression.

DIVORCE DECISION

Dear Aled,

I love my parents equally, but now they've told me they're splitting up and I have to decide who I want to live with. I don't want to move house, but I don't want to upset my dad if I stay with mum. Please help.

Aled says: I'm sure your parents are trying their hardest to make things easier for you at this difficult time, but asking you to choose who to live with puts you in a very tricky position. You must tell them that you don't want to move house, but you don't want to hurt your dad's feelings. They will understand that you are being forced to make a horrible decision and that none of this is your fault. And just because you won't be living with your dad any more, it doesn't mean you won't see each other as much as you can.

My true story

"I lost my best friend"

TYLER JAMES was devastated when his best friend Amy Winehouse died, but singing helped get him back on his feet.

What was it like to lose someone so close to you?

Amy was my best friend and I was at rock bottom when she died. We were like two peas in a pod - like two halves of the same person.

How did Amy's death influence your decision to audition for The Voice UK?

A friend called me and said, "There's this show coming up." I'd never in a million years normally go in for this, but once Amy wasn't here any more, there was a part of me that thought: "Life's too short. Anything goes now."

What do you think Amy would have thought about you being on a reality TV show?

I think originally she'd have thought I was mad! She had the same kind of view that I had of shows like The Voice, which was just, "How do people do it? How do you get up and sing and let yourself be judged in that way?"

Looking back on it, do you think it was the right decision?

Yes, I've been doing what I love for months now and I never want it to end.

WHEELCHAIR DESPAIR

Dear Aled,

I suffer from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Hypermobility, so when I go out, I sometimes have to use a wheelchair. But then I get really embarrassed and worried if I see someone I know. What can I do?

Aled says: I'm sorry to hear about your condition, Jodie. As difficult as it is, you won't be able to hide your EDS forever, and the sooner people see you out and about in your chair, the sooner they'll get used to it and it won't be such a big deal any more. Start telling your classmates about it, so they won't be so shocked when they see you in your chair. And if you're comfortable talking about it, it will make others feel comfortable, too. Be brave and best of luck.

REAL LIFE - "MY SPOTS LEFT ME IN AGONY"

When Amber, now 16, developed severe acne, it wasn't just how she looked that got her down...

Amber's story...

She first developed spots at 12 and nothing could cure the painful acne.

With specialist help,her skin's now improving.

Her inspirational story appeared as part of BBC3's The Body Beautiful season.

"Amber, your face looks like a tomato!" Dad gasped as I walked through the front door. "What on earth's happened?"

I knew I looked bad, but the chemical face peel I'd just had at a local skin clinic to kick-start the healing process had left my skin red raw. I felt like a freak - no wonder Dad was shocked. The treatment had really hurt too, but I willing to try anything to make my skin better and avoid scarring.

Severe acne

I first started suffering from severe acne when I was 12, and at times there's been barely any skin on my face that's clear from the huge red and white pimples. Even now, I'm not entirely sure why it affects me so badly, but doctors have explained it's probably down to my hormones, as well as the stress of having an operation to fix a problem with my spine when I was younger.

Sometimes the spots on my face have created so much pressure, I've been in absolute agony. My face would throb so badly, I'd have to leave school and just lie in bed. Recently I've even had to get a pore on the side of my face drained after one of my glands created too much protein, causing a disgusting white lump to appear.

It turned out to be a cyst that had to be removed before it burst and left a scar. The procedure was pretty quick, but it was still really painful.

Confidence crisis

I absolutely detested my skin for such a long time, it really got me down.

I watched hundreds of videos on the internet to find out how to put on make-up to hide my spots. Every day before leaving for school, I'd spend a couple of hours applying layers and layers of foundation.

I hardly ever talked to boys, particularly because they were the ones who'd usually say mean things about my skin. "Look at those disgusting red spots!" one boy teased. Despite having a bubbly group of friends who tried to make me feel more confident, I couldn't help being down about it.

When I first got the acne, I tried all the face washes and scrubs, but none of them worked. Later, my parents took me to the doctor and he prescribed all kinds of creams and tablets, but still they didn't fix my skin. "I'm going to live with this forever, aren't I?" I thought.

Specialist treatment

Then in May this year, my mum finally found a private skin clinic that offered something new. "Your acne is on the far end of the really bad acne scale, but we do have some options," said Amanda, the specialist. I didn't want to get my hopes up too much, but she made me feel a lot more confident.

Amber started me on a course of LED treatment, where little lights are shone on your skin. There are two lights, one to kill the bacteria and one that heals the scars. After just one session, I noticed a difference and I was over the moon. So far I've had 16 sessions, and each one heals my skin a little more.

I do still get down about my spots, but I've learned that it's so important to be happy in yourself and focus on your good points. Plus, I know my friends and family would never judge me on what my skin looks like, but on what's inside instead.

Doctor Sanjay from Radio 1's The Surgery says:

Acne can affect up to 90 per cent of teenagers. it's not caused by dirty skin or your diet and it's not contagious. Spots develop when skin pores get blocked because of increased oil production due to hormone changes during puberty.

What treatment should you use?

For mild acne, a chemist can suggest a product that can work well.

For moderate acne, see your GP. they can prescribe treatments such as antibiotics.

For severe acne, specialised treatment may be needed. remember, all treatments might take a few weeks to start working, so be patient.

What else can you do?

Don't over-wash, use a gentle cleanser, oil-free moisturiser and choose anti-acne make-up. never sleep in your make-up and definitely don't pick and squeeze the spots. if having acne is making you miserable, try to focus on the things you like about yourself. remember, with the right treatment it will get better, so stay positive and don't let spots limit your life.

In five minutes time you'll have laughed so much you'll have fallen in love. Ladies, it's Niall...

Niall, we've been with you from the start - do you think you've changed much?

I've got a bit older! I've started growing a tiny bit of a beard. I'm basically a man... actually I'm not a man, I'm a skinny-ass boy! I think I'm still the same. We've just probably got a little bit madder with age.

Madder?! In what way?

We're so immature. The other day we were over at Ed Sheeran's house and we cracked open this massive watermelon and started throwing it at each other. The lads picked Harry up and dumped him in it.

Oh dear! Are play fights a regular thing?

We have play fights all the time with our tour manager. One night, I hit my hand on his watch and it split my thumb 'til you could see my bone. I've got a scar there. Women love scars. That's why I did it!

Something has certainly changed since the last time TOTP Mag met you - Liam's hair!

Yeah! He just randomly did it. He goes to me in the morning, "Niall, I'm going to shave my hair for that shoot we're doing." So he just goes and shaves his head!

Was your second album harder to do?

When you make a second album, I think the thing to do is outdo your first one, and personally I think we've done that. It's way better. It sounds a bit more live.

Do you think it's shocked people?

We wanted the music to grow with us, but there's nothing really drastic because it's only been a year since the last album.

Now we've got to ask - how's the love life?

I'm still single. I'm not looking, but if the right girl came along... But I'm so lazy that when we're off I just want to sleep. I like to chill, do nothing and sit on the couch.

What sort of girl are you looking for?

Cute, nice eyes, nice smile and carefree, like me. Someone I can have fun with, and hold a real conversation with on a first date. It's not the easiest thing to do if you're just looking at each other across the table, fiddling with your spaghetti.

We don't think you'll have any trouble finding a date - you're looking VERY buff...

Am I? I swear I haven't been to the gym once. I've still got skinny arms and skinny legs. Maybe I'm just filling out.

You took your top off in the Live While We're Young video and you looked pretty fine to us!

I'm kind of sad I did it now. I only did it because the T-shirt was soaking. I've got nothing to flaunt! I just did it for no reason.

So you've had your top off, but when are you getting your braces off?

I'll get the braces off in either December or January, I think. I've got the dentist next week, so I'll have an update soon!

TOTP Mag's reporters in LA tell us you're the favourite in the States. That must feel good...

I've heard that a few times, but I don't know. I think the Irish thing goes down well over there, so that helps!
